Basic Brilliance was born in the early 1980’s when affordable 100% cotton clothing for children was almost impossible to find. We sourced the few remaining domestic sources and started our line in 1986 with just a few styles.
The Basic Brilliance mission has always been to provide quality, style, comfort, durability and value in American made, 100% cotton apparel for babies and children.
After years of selling our products via our retail store and a print catalog we launched the Basic Brilliance web site in 1999.
No frills, no prints, no fuss, just easy-care and easy going styles that kids love to wear every day and offered at the best possible prices.

We garment-dye colors to-order to insure color consistency. We use low-impact fiber-reactive dyes. Fiber-reactive dyes are a synthetic dye that chemically bonds directly to the clothing fiber molecules. They were first used commercially in 1956. The fixation or absorption rate of low-impact dyes is at least 70%, creating less waste water runoff and therefore a lower impact on the environment. Recent advances have created fiber-reactive dyes with colors that are brighter and richer, and they provide excellent colorfast properties. They contain no heavy metals or other known toxic substances, and they meet all European Union criteria for being an eco-friendly pigment.
We are located in the beautiful Victorian seaport of Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
